Art Smart Vocabulary Words
This page will contain vocabulary words that we are exploring

Line

Line - the path of a dot through space.
Line Quality - using a variety of lines
Horizontal - Any straight edge or line that is flat across
Diagonal/Oblique- Any straight edge or line that is slanted in direction.
Vertical - A straight edge or line that is going straight up and down


Shape

Shapes are 2-dimensional - they have height and width
Geometric Shapes - shapes like circles, squares, triangles - these shapes have definite names and "rules" on how they are made. They are mostly symmetrical.
Organic Shapes - shapes based from nature - these shapes do not have names or "rules" and can be asymmetrical

Form

Forms are 3-dimensional - they have height, width, and depth
Examples of Geometric forms are cubes, pyramids, spheres, and rectangular prisms
Forms can also be Organic

Color

Hue - the pure color.
Primary Colors - red, yellow, and blue. These three colors mix together to create other colors. You can't make a primary color
Secondary Colors - green, orange, and violet. Two primary colors mix together to make a secondary color
Intermediate Colors (tertiary colors) - a mix of a primary and a secondary color next to each other on the color wheel. For example: red mixed with orange makes red-orange. There are 6 intermediate colors.
Warm Colors - red, yellow, and orange. Warm colors advance in a picture.
Cool Colors - green, blue, and violet. Cool colors recede in a picture.

Tint - any color mixed with white. Makes a color lighter
Shade - any color mixed with black. Makes a color darker

Value

Value - the lightness and darkness of a color
