"Why - I just love your stripes!"
5th Grade students learned that Complementary Colors are opposites on the color wheel. There are three complementary color pairs: red and green, blue and orange, and yellow and violet. Complementary colors make each other look brighter when placed by each other.
I created this lesson to combine drawing contour lines with using complementary colors. I love zebras - so why not create Complementary Zebras - that give compliments!
After the painting project was finished, we discussed the homophones - complement and compliment. Students were to think of a compliment that their zebra could be giving to another zebra.
The students did a fantastic job on their paintings and the compliments!
I have these displayed in the hallway outside of the library. They will be up until after our Christmas break. Take a look next time you stop in to Washington.
Washington has been my "Home" school for many years now. I enjoy teaching all the different students who make up this diverse school. I have taught a multitude of lessons in this building and have learned just as much from all of the students.
